The event starts on Sunday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m. PST, exclusively streaming on FloGrappling.
Nicolete is a young, hungry black belt who now has an incredible opportunity in front of him.It remains to be seen where he was in his training, but he's had a hot year - including a medal at the IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championships and at the ADCC Vegas Open in T-Mobile Arena. Now the 22-year old Brazilian will step onto the biggest stage in gi grappling as he unexpectedly jumps into the deep pool of The Crown.
It remains to be seen how they handle the bracket, but it's likely they have Nicolete replace Rodrigues in his round one matchup against 2024 World Champion Brauginha of Atos. There's no easy path here, but there's something exciting about seeing someone get this big a chance in an unexpected way.
Rodrigues was a late scratch on weigh-in day and Nicolete was there with his wife Jaine, who will be competing in the women's lightweight bracket. With the IBJJF needing someone to step up and take advantage of the moment, he didn't hesitate. We'll see how he does tomorrow, but that's a commendable spirit from Nicolete to accept a bracket this tough on only 24-hours notice.

IBJJF's The Crown, presented by FloGrappling, will feature four male and two female divisions, each with money on the line and the ultimate bragging rights. The winner of each division is, without a doubt, the best of the best. An event of this magnitude can only take place in the mecca of jiu-jitsu, the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, CA, on Nov. 17, only on FloGrappling.
