The No-Gi Pan Absolute Brackets Are HERE! See Who's In For Open Class
See both of the open class brackets at adult black belt for IBJJF No-Gi Pans, with plenty of tough grapplers in the mix for double gold
We have the open class brackets SET for the IBJJF No-Gi Pans at adult black belt - and they are stacked with tons of top talent all aiming for absolute gold & glory. These divisions take the mat 9:30am tomorrow on Mats 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, & 12.
You can find the full brackets, updated in real time, here for the men and here for the women.
Men's Open Class
Shaggy-Jitsu Anthony Robinson of Richardson BJJ takes the #1 seed here and in that quarter of the bracket he will potentially see gi middleweight world medalist Alehander Mariano - a leg lock specialist from Atos who could have the potential for the upset. Whoever makes the semifinal will have a tough one - David Garmo, Austin Oranday, Rafael Silva and Sean Yadimarco all are contending for the podium as up-and-coming talent.
On the other side, Devhonte "Bones" Johnson gets the 2-seed and will be favored by many here for the bracket. Still, his first match could be Who's Next veteran Rene Sousa, a 10th Planet black belt and tough-nosed competitor who always scraps. Whoever wins that win gets a big boy - winner of Leo Lemos vs Igor Schneider. On the other side, Francisco Lo will be the favorite to make the semifinal to meet them, as the 3-seed.
Women's Open Class
The women's absolute is a little smaller but overall has more elite talent - including the return of top-seeded Elisabeth Clay. The former World no-gi open class champion returns to this event less than two months after welcoming her first child, so there are some question marks but Clay entering the open class is a clear sign that she wants to jump back into the deep end. Her first match will be the quarterfinal and she meets the winner of Mayara Ribeiro (top-seed at super-heavy) and Brittney Johnson. In the semifinal, she could see the winner of Deise Leonanjo and ECJJA's Amanda Schultz.
The two seed will be Salla Simola of Finland, who could see last year's brown belt open class World champion Nadia Frankland. The winner of that one will have the winner of Maria Ruffatto & Amanda Bruse.
