Erich Munis Returns To Defend His IBJJF Crown Against Talented Field

The IBJJF made the announcement last week on Instagram, in the following post;

  • Erich Munis
    • Erich is the top dog in this bracket with four world titles to his credit, including the absolute gold at Worlds this year. The Fratres star has made his open guard work against the best and has made an effort to put on more of a show this season.
  • Gutemberg Pereira
    • Gutemberg entered the year with lofty goals, but the new AOJ-rep ended up struggling to end the gi season - leaving Worlds without any hardware despite being among the favorites in his weight and the absolute. Now he can change his entire year by coming here and winning The Crown, and he will still be among the most likely to win.
  • Pedro Machado
    • Pedro moves up from heavyweight all the way to ultra, and though he will be a little undersized the Pan Champion still has all the skill to compete. He's most dangerous with his closed guard and back attacks, and brings a strong pace of offense to his matches.
  • Marcus "Scooby" Ribeiro
    • Scooby enters as the Alliance representative here, after another good year for the young black belt. He's big, athletic, technical, and has all the tools needed to win Worlds or the Crown - though he's still hunting for that one breakout performance. It could come in The Pyramid when he enters here.
  • Roosevelt Sousa
    • Roosevelt is always down to take on anyone and though he's made his name more in no-gi the last few years, he still has plenty of experience and accolades in the gi. The FightSports black belt has movement that people his size rarely possess and that makes him a threat in any matchup.
  • Felipe "Laranjinha" Costa
    • Laranjinha is back in the gi after a very successful no-gi focus which led him to winning ADCC Trials and placing top-4 at Worlds. Now he wants to make the same major impact in his usual style of the gi, though he will be one of the smallest in the field.
  • Kjetil Lydvo
    • Kjetil enters the bracket as one of Europe's standout black belts, especially at ultra-heavyweight, and the newly-minted 2024 World bronze medalist will bring a pace that most his size can't handle.
  • Kristof Szucs
    • Kristof is one of the lesser known names in the bracket but still a very tough match for anyone, especially with strong momentum after winning American Nationals earlier this year.
