IBJJF Announces 8 Contenders At Super-Heavy For The Crown

The Crown is returning November 17th in the Walter Pyramid and the IBJJF has announced who the eight women who will vie for the gold at super-heavy. The division is led by the dominant force that is Gabi Pessanha, last year's Crown champion and the winner of her last 138 matches. She is the undisputed queen of the game - tho in November she puts it on the line again against a tough field.

The eight contenders at the IBJJF Crown will be:

  • Gabi Pessanha
    • Gabi is an eight-time IBJJF World Champion, the owner of a 138-0 undefeated streak, and has left her mark already as one of the greatest to ever do it. Now, she will attempt to repeat as champion at The Crown and write another chapter in her history books.
  • Nathiely de Jesus
    • Nathiely is a 5-time IBJJF World Champion who has been a mainstay in her divisions for years, and the only woman besides Pessanha to win an absolute world title. She is also fresh off of a trip to the ADCC Finals and is a past winner of the IBJJF GP.
  • Melissa Stricker
    • Melissa is a two-time World Champion and one of the most aggressive and physically powerful athletes in the field. She is constantly competing and fighting against the best, bringing tons of high level experience to the mats.
  • Tamiris Silva
    • Tamiris won her first ever World Championship in 2024, defeating Stricker in the heavyweight finals. She could cap off her incredible 2024 run with a title at The Crown.
  • Giovanna Jara
    • Giovanna returns to the gi in high level competition as the former brown belt open class champion is entered into the gi. She has been out of action welcoming her first child and now looks to be an x-factor against the competition here.
  • Isabely Lemos
    • The reigning brown belt open class champion is off to a great start in her black belt debut year, and now Lemos will enter into the toughest bracket of her career with a chance to break out.
  • Mayara Custodio
    • Mayara is a multiple-time World Medalist who is a very physically powerful athlete. She brings a wealth of experience against the best and is a tough out for anyone in the world.
  • Maria "Maca" Vicentini
    • Maca is a real darkhorse in this field, even though she is a medium-heavy who competes lighter than a lot of the rest. She had a great season, reps AOJ, and recently had a very close match against Pessanha.
