8 Heavyweights Are Set For The IBJJF Crown, Including 2 World Champions

The participants in IBJJF's The Crown have been determined at heavyweight and the class will be headlined by multiple World Champions and medalists in a stacked field. Going down November 17th, The Crown will feature six weight divisions that bring together the best champions and representatives from the season to face off for money and glory.

The eight men involved will be;

  • Adam Wardzinski
    • The reigning IBJJF World Champion at heavyweight is in for the Crown as he enters the event as the man to beat. Adam also won Euros this year and submitted his way to his first world gold. A Crown title would cap off his incredible 2024.
  • Gustavo Batista
    • The medium-heavy world champion moves back up to heavyweight to take his shot at The Crown. He also had a 100% finish rate at Worlds including a wicked leg lock over Jansen in the finals. This would be his first Crown championship.
  • Horlando Monteiro
    • Horlando is one of the most risk-taking, exciting heavyweights in the game and he is bringing his dynamic style to The Crown for what would be his biggest championship yet. Horlando has a knack for being in great fights, win or lose.
  • Rider Zuchi
    • Rider is one of the best up-and-coming heavyweights in the game and the former student of Leandro Lo will be looking to build off his strong results this season. In 2024, Rider took world bronze and gold at Brasileiros, probably his best season yet.
  • Mateus Rodrigues
    • The Pan Champion at medium-heavy moves up as one of AOJ's best big men enters the bracket. Mateus has had one of his most active years ever and looks to capitalize off of that strong momentum at The Crown.
  • Paulo Merlin
    • Paulo is entered into The Crown and he is consistently one of the best young heavyweights who will now try to break out against the elite. Paulo medaled at Worlds and Pans and has set himself apart from the field as one of the best who is right there to take that step to the next level.
  • Patrick Gaudio
    • Gaudio made his return to the gi this season with good results, winning Brasileiros at his new weight of heavyweight. Now he gets his shot at 2024's The Crown.
  • Matheus Spirandeli
    • Spira will be the Alliance representative here at heavyweight and the former Brasileiro champion has a very active style that results in a lot of finishes.
