IBJJF Confirms 8 Middleweights Set For 2024's The Crown
Tainan Dalpra is set to defend his title at IBJJF's The Crown against a field of top contenders, including Andy Murasaki, Francisco Lo, and more
The IBJJF has announced the full eight-person field for the 2024 middleweight bracket at The Crown, with multiple world medalists and top-ranked contenders set to take the mats. The field is headlined by returning finalists Tainan Dalpra and Andy Murasaki, with a strong mix of young talent and veterans.
The eight men involved will be;
- Tainan Dalpra
- Tainan is a two-time IBJJF World Champion and the winner of the inaugural Crown who now returns to defend that title. He lost at the Mundials in controversial fashion, so expect a highly motivated Dalpra against the field.
- Andy Murasaki
- Andy Murasaki is one of the best in the world, having made world finals in three different weight classes. The Atos black belt was in the finals of every IBJJF major this season, though he took silver to Mica each time.
- Mauricio Oliveira
- Oliveira was the 2024 European champion at medium-heavy and continued to have a strong season through Mundials. This will be his first appearance at The Crown.
- Francisco Lo
- Francisco had his best finish ever at Mundials this season, taking silver in a highly competitive bracket before falling to CheckMat teammate Nagai. Lo had a win over Dalpra by DQ at Worlds that will add intrigue to a potential rematch at The Crown.
- Gabriel Galvao
- Galvao is one of this year's most exciting new black belts, havign won brown belt Mundials and already taking gold in the Sao Paulo Pro. He also recently beat Lo in a super fight by decision.
- Manuel Ribamar
- Riba has been a top contender for years at black belt, with many medals at major tournaments. After a gold in the Master's Worlds this year, he turns his attention back to the adult division for The Crown.
- Elijah Dorsey
- "Big Breakfast" makes his Crown debut after a breakout year for the TLI black belt. He won his first ever IBJJF major, taking gold at Euros in the lightweight division.
- Jaime Canuto
- The always exciting Canuto makes his Crown debut and the very experienced and accomplish black belt from GF Team brings an element of danger to any matchup he is in.
