One of the most difficult weight classes to win at the ADCC World Championships was captured by defending champion Giancarlo Bodoni on Aug. 18 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. 

In what may have been the match of the tournament, and possibly of 2024, Bodoni defeated Jay Rodriguez in the -88KG ADCC World Championship final, ending a run that started on Day 1 with a submission win in the first round. Bodoni won by points.

"This is the same feeling I had las time," Bodoni said after the match. "Euphoria." 

It's a historical win by Bodoni, who becomes the first consecutive -88KG champion ever and just the second person to win the weight class twice. Only Saulo Ribeiro had won the weight class twice. 

The -88KG bracket has been the starting ground for some of the best heavyweight grapplers in the world. Gordon Ryan, Andre Galvao and Yuri Simoes are all past winners of the weight class. Ryan gave his New Wave teammate a bug hug after the match.
