Day In The Life With Giancarlo Bodoni

Defending -88KG ADCC World Champion Giancarlo Bodoni returns to Las Vegas and looks to become the first person to ever win one of the most challenging weight classes of the tournament in consecutive ADCC World Championships.

The ADCC World Championship begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas but athletes just learned their gold medal path on Aug. 16 and have a short turnaround before their first round matchups.

Bodoni returns as the champion and will attempt to do something Gordon Ryan, Andre Galvao and Yuri Simoes never did. Saulo Ribeiro is the only grappler to win the -88KG bracket twice, but he didn't do it in consecutive ADCC World Championships (2000 and 2003)

Many grapplers at -88KG move up in weight class, like Ryan did after winning the bracket in 2017 and Simoes in 2015. Both made the leap and successfully won the -99KG bracket at the following ADCC Worlds.

Bodoni has a challenging field trying to prevent history. That includes Pedro Marinho, one of the most decorated grapplers over the last decade. Chris Wojcik, who has been documenting his ADCC story on FloGrappling, is also in the field.

Here's -88KG ADCC World Championship bracket and fight schedule.
