Nicholas Meregali Has Called His Submissions For 2024 ADCC Worlds
Nicholas Meregali has taken to social media to predict the submissions he will hit in each round of the 2024 ADCC World Championship!
Nicholas Meregali is one of the boldest, and most confident athletes in the sport of jiu-jitsu today. With that confidence he is not afraid to make predictions and declare statements that often illicit a rather significant response from his competitors, fans, and the media alike.
Well, the Dark Lord has taken to his Instagram to do it again. This time he has given the specific submissions that he will be hitting in the -99kg division of the 2024 ADCC World Championship.
Via his Instagram story, Meregali has declared that he will win his first two matches via heel hook, a submission we have yet to see him land in competition. It is predicted that Meregali will get the two-seed in the -99kg bracket, which would then lead us to think he could be going up against someone like Eli Braz (two-time South America Trials silver-medalist), Marcin Maciulewicz (Euro Trials winner), or Daniel Schuardt (Asian Trials winner) -- head to our bracket predictions article to see the full rundown of how this bracket could be seeded.
Any of these matchups means that Meregali could have a tough opening round, and specifically heel hooking these potential matchups would be even more impressive.
Meregali did not give a specific submission prediction for a third match, but he did make a prediction for a potential match with Kaynan Duarte, the returning -99kg ADCC Champion.
Assuming that Kaynan is the one-seed and Meregali is the two-seed, this match would have to hit in the finals, and that seems to be how Meregali sees the bracket playing out.
Meregali and Kaynan last faced off in the main event of WNO 19 on August 10, 2023, where we saw Meregali get the win via arm triangle.
In their potential matchup at ADCC, Meregali has predicted that he finishes Kaynan via armbar. This is a technique that we have seen Meregali use frequently in competition, from his no-gi debut against Arnaldo Maidana at WNO 12 to his most recent WNO match against Vagner Rocha at WNO 23.
In true Meregali fashion he also added a bonus prediction and said that if he fights Felipe Pena in the open class then he will submit him too. But, I think we all know that the potential match we want to see in the open class is Nicholas Meregali vs Mica Galvão.
The predictions are set, and now we just have to wait for the BIG SHOW. The 2024 ADCC World Championship is kicking off on Friday, August 16th at 8:00PM CDT with the official bracket reveal and then the matches are going down on Saturday, August 17th from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada!
