BJJ Stars 13 Preview: Mica & Davi Ramos Headline A Stacked Vikings Edition

Brazil's biggest super fight organization is back, as BJJ Stars presents 'BJJ Stars 13: Vikings Edition' on Saturday, August 3rd at 6pm EST, live from São Paulo, Brazil. The card will feature a ton of great matchups between world-ranked opponents, headlined by 2024 IBJJF World Champion Mica Galvao facing 2015 ADCC World Champion & UFC veteran Davi Ramos in no-gi action.

BJJ Stars is a very impressive super fight league in Brazil that started running in the last few years. It's really set itself apart as one of the world's premier shows with its entertaining matchmaking, high level of production, and for how they treat the grapplers like stars. The crowd is always knowledgable and excited, the matches tend to be aggressive and exciting, and the shows overall are ones that any grappling fan should make time for.

The main event here is a clash of generations between Brazilian champions, with Mica taking on Davi Ramos. In many ways Mica made his name at BJJ Stars, facing and defeating champions early in his career. Mica is the odds-on favorite to win gold at the ADCC Worlds in Las Vegas, but Davi has already accomplished that before and will be a huge test for Galvao. This will be both of their last matches before they're in the same bracket in T-Mobile, meaning it can have huge implications on their momentum and seeding.

BJJ Stars 13 Full Card

  • Mica Galvao vs Davi Ramos (no-gi)
  • Felipe Machado vs Diogo Reis (no-gi)
  • Anderson Munis vs Fellipe Andrew (gi)
  • Pedro Maia vs Andy Murasaki (gi)
  • Francisco Lo vs Gabriel Galvao (gi)
  • Alexandre Jesus vs Isaque Bahiense (no-gi)
  • Wellington Alemao vs Gabriel Costa (gi)
  • Fabio Caloi vs Servio Tulio (no-gi)
  • Thalyta Silva vs Ingridd Alves (gi)
  • Felipe Nacib vs Cleber Clandestino (no-gi)
  • Leonardo Goncalves vs Lucas Bernardes (no-gi)
  • Erik Hudson Kaike Rightetti (no-gi)

This card is split between matches in gi and no-gi. Brazil historically has tended to favor the traditional gi but with ADCC less than one month away, so many athletes are focused on no-gi and this will be their last match before the World Championships in T-Mobile. There still will be gi matches, including multiple tilts between world medalists and pound-for-pound level talent.

Also featured on the card will be Mica's teammate and the defending ADCC gold medalist at -66kg, Diogo 'Baby Shark' Reis. Reis will be facing Felipe Machado, who is one of Brazil's best no-gi grapplers. In the last year, Reis suffered a knee injury against Diego Pato and has had to recover and return in time for ADCC. This is a very important match to see where he's at and how he looks before his title defense begins in earnest.

The card was originally supposed to feature a rematch of the 2024 IBJJF World Championships match between Tainan Dalpra and Francisco Lo, but Dalpra had to withdraw - he is receiving his American citizenship the next morning and was unable to commit to the match. Instead, World silver medalist Francisco Lo will face young black belt Gabriel Galvao in a big test for the exciting up-and-comer.

In some premier gi action, there will be a few key matches in the gi - including a clash of IBJJF World Champions when Anderson Munis takes on Fellipe Andrew. Anderson won his first black belt world title this year, submitting his brother Erich in a very surprising kneebar, and he will be taking on 2023 IBJJF World Champion Fellipe Andrew. Andrew was the medium-heavy champion at BJJ Stars 12 and now moves up to face the larger Munis.

One of the more intriguing matches on the card in either style has to be Andy Murasaki and Pedro Maia. Both lightweights are action-oriented, with a bunch of highlight finishes to each's credit. After medaling at Worlds, and with World Champion Mica Galvao likely moving up, this match can go a long way to reestablishing the top dog at this division.
