Mica Galvao Is Attempting To Win The Ultra-Rare 'Super Grand Slam' At ADCC
Mica Galvao could become the youngest grappler to ever accomplish the ultra-rare 'Super Grand Slam' if he wins ADCC
Mica Galvao has been on an incredible run in 2024, entering and winning all four IBJJF Majors - Europeans, Pans, Brasileiros, Worlds - to accomplish the Grand Slam. This marked his first ever IBJJF World Championship, but he isn't satisfied there for his 2024; Mica is attempting to accomplish the ultra-rare Super Grand Slam.

Only one man ever has won a Super Grand Slam in jiu-jitsu. It involves winning not just all four of the iBJJF majors but also the ADCC World Championship, and the only person to ever do it is Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles in 2017. If he is able to do it at just 20 years old, Mica will be the youngest ever by over a decade to accomplish the feat.
The rarity of the accomplishment is proof of how hard this is - and while Mica is four-fifths of the way there, he's far from done. He will have to go through a bracket that includes multiple former ADCC World Champions and medalists, including tough rivals like Dante Leon in the mix. He will be the likely one seed and a popular pick for gold in T-Mobile, but considering the depth in grappling at the moment (especially at this weight class) this is one of the deepest brackets at -77kg ever.
On August 17th and 18th, Mica Galvao has a chance to make history and establish a legacy as one of the most accomplished champions ever. His 2024 could rank among the best years for any grappler, but for all of that to be true he is still one elusive gold medal away.
