FloGrappling Analysts Predict How The ADCC +65kg Bracket Will Be Seeded

The countdown to the 2024 ADCC World Championships is coming to an end. We're just 38 days away from biggest event in grappling at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Aug. 17-18.

As the all star brackets fill up, we're beginning to anticipate which matches we may see, which athletes will be seeded where, and what the brackets may look like.

Three FloGrappling analysts tried our hands at predicting how the brackets will be drawn, starting with the stacked women's +65kg division. Take a look at our best guesses below.

Corey Stockton

The top three at +65kg have to go to the returning place winners, Amy Campo who took gold in 2022, Rafaela Guedes who took silver, and Kendall Reusing who took fourth place. Easy.

Four through eight are much trickier, however. I gave Nathiely de Jesus the no.4, as she's an ADCC veteran from 2019, which, together with her various IBJJF and WNO accolades, makes her a legitimate threat.

Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths is the other ADCC veteran in this category, but I put her behind my no.5, Maria Ruffatto, as Ruffatto had back to back impressive ADCC Trials wins in Brazil.

The no.7 is Elizabeth Mitrovic, who won West Coast Trials. I wouldn't be surprised if she's seeded higher in the official bracket given her incredible run there.

That leaves Nia Blackman at the no.8. There's an argument that both she and Mitrovic could be seeded ahead of Lloyd-Griffiths, but I'm favoring the Australian for her ADCC veteran status.

Joe Gilpin

This is an easy division to get the top three seeds - defending gold and silver medalists Amy Campo and Rafaela Guedes will be in the top spots. Kendall is the only other woman in the field to win a match at ADCC and took 4th last time (after an injury default) so she deserves the three.

At the four, I took Nathiely. She’s one of the best in the world and a former ADCC veteran who should be expected to do reasonably well. With all four invited top seeds facing Trials winners, I gave Mitrovic - who won the toughest Trials - the highest seed.

For the last three seeds, I gave Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths (an ADCC veteran) the six seed, and then slotted the last two women Maria and Nia into the 7 & 8 based off of their Trials performances.

Carlos Arthur Jr.

ADCC 2022 champ Amy Campo comes as the no.1 seed of the over 65kg bracket, and she might be up against BTT's Maria Rufatto, who had a standout run at the ADCC Brazil Trials with two submissions at the semi and the final in São Paulo. The winner here will either face ADCC veteran and experienced Gracie Barra competitor Kendall Reusing, or No-Gi Worlds and ADCC West Coast Trials champion Lyzz Mitrovic.

Leading the other side of the bracket as the no.2 seed, ADCC 2022 silver medalist and Atos' black belt Rafaela Guedes brings her aggressive Jiu-Jitsu to fight for the title. The British Nia Blackman joins as a potential opponent for Rafaela in the first round and is a strong contender with a lot of experience despite her fairly recent rise to the Jiu-Jitsu elite. In the last match of the bracket, Nathiely de Jesus makes her debut in the organization. An experienced competitor with many open-weight titles conquered in both gi and no-gi,  Nathiely will be up against ADCC veteran Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths, who once again comes to the main event after taking the gold at the Asia and Oceania Trials.
