Next up it's the biggest and heaviest division, it's the Ultimate weight class. One thing that makes this weight class so exciting is there is no maximum weight in this division. 

This weight class, like the others, is heavily dominated by Brazilian athletes. One of those athletes Marcus Almeida, who won the Ultimate Heavyweight division seven-times and holds the record for most wins in the category. 

Here are the rest of the winners in the Ultra Heavyweight division since 1996 at IBJJF Worlds.

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 1996: Mario Sperry

Sperry is a three-time IBJJF World Champion. He won one of his IBJJF world titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 1997: Luiz Guilherme

This is Guilherme first and only IBJJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 1998,1999: Roberto Traven

Traven is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He won both of his IBJJF Worlds titles in the ultimate heavyweight division. He also won one Brazilian National Championship in 1995.

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2000: Leonardo Leite

Leite is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He won one of his IBJJF World titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2001: Marcio Corleta

This is Corleta's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2002: Marcio Cruz

Cruz is a three-time IBJJF World Champion. He won one of his IBJJF World titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight.

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2003 and 2004: Fabricio Werdum

Werdum is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He won both of his IBJJF world titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2005: Francisco Fernandes

This is Fernandes' first and only IBJJF World Championship title. He is also a five-time Brazilian National Champion. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2006: Gabriel Gonzaga

This is Gonzaga’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2007: Rafael Lovato Jr.

This is Lovato's first and only IBJJF World Championship title, but it was a historic win because Lovato is the only non-Brazillian to win in this division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2008: Roger Gracie

 Gracie is a seven-time IBJJF World Champion. He won one of his IBJJF World titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2009: Gabriel Vella

This is Vella’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title.  

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2010: Rodrigo Cavaca

This is Cavaca's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2011: Antonio Braga

Braga is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He won one of his IBJJF Worlds titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019: Marcus Almeida

Almeida is a seven-time IBJJF World Champion. He earned all eight of his IBJJF Worlds titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2015: Gabriel Lyrio

This is Lyrio’s first and only IBJJF World championship title. 

IBJJF Ultimate Heavyweight Champion In 2021, 2022, 2023: Victor Hugo

Hugo is a three-time IBJJF World Champion. He won all of his IBJJF Worlds titles in the Ultimate Heavyweight division. Hugo is also the current champion and looks to defend his title at the 2024 IBJJF World Championship.
