With eight teams looking to become champions at the Athletic Club Juventus, in São Paulo, the AIGA Brazil 2024 arrives on South American shores with another memorable tournament for its third season. The first day of the competition took place this Friday, May 24th, and brought the quarterfinals between the teams Kasai, Demian Maia Team, Vouk Elite, Untouchable, Pirâmide Grappling, Melqui Galvão Team, Andinos, and Luta Livre.

The highlight goes to the Kasai Team, who left no room for doubt about their skills as they rampaged through the tournament. Bringing a star-studded roster to the tournament, the team faced the Demian Maia Team and won all seven matches via submission, with six of those coming in the very first round. Names like Fabricio Andrey, Pedro Marinho, and Andrew Tackett are among the most efficient competitors of the bunch. 

Also in the quarterfinals, the Rio de Janeiro-based Pirâmide Grappling beat the Melqui Galvão Team. After losing the first fight via decision, the Pirâmide Grappling Team turned the tables on their opponents and won three matches via submission. Galvão’s team fought back and got a win with Kauan Gabriel, but Antonio Assef followed with a submission in the third round and safeguarded an early victory for the Pirâmide Grappling.

Before that, the Vouk Elite Team brought a mix of competitors from different gyms and Brazilian states while the Untouchable Team was composed of Alliance athletes. The clash between the groups was a balanced one and, with the scoreboard at 3-3 after the six first fights, the winning side was decided in the last fight, with the blue belt Guilherme Oliveira landing a heel hook on the black belt Hoanes Nacib to snag the win and take Vouk to the semis. 

Kicking off the tournament, the Andinos Team scored a 4-3 win over the Luta Livre Team. With the first day completed, the semifinals have been defined and Kasai will be facing Andinos while Vouk Elite goes toe-to-toe against Pirâmide Grappling.
