Here Are The All-Time Middleweight Champions At IBJJF Worlds
List of all the IBJJF Middleweight class winners since 1996 at IBJJF Worlds including Men's and Women's divisions.
The 2024 Jiu-Jitsu IBBJF World Championships are May 29-June 2, so it's time to recap all of the past winners in all of the IBJJF weight classes.
After looking at the all-time Lightweight class winners, next up is the Middleweight class, which is the weight class that some believe is the most important in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu.

Only three athletes on this list have won multiple IBJJF World titles in the Middleweight division.
Here are the winners in the Middleweight division since 1996 at IBJJF Worlds.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 1996: Roberto Correa
This was Correa first and only IBJJF World Championship title. He also is a four-time IBJJF Pans Champion.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 1997: Saulo Ribeiro
Ribeiro is a five-time IBJJF World champion, he earned his first IBJJF World title in the Middleweight division. He is also a two-time ADCC World Champion.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 1998: Fernando Vasconcelos
This was Vasconcelos’ first and only IBJJF World Championship title.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 1999: Alexandre Pavia
This was Pavia’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title. The year after winning his IBJJF title he won a bronze medal at the IBJJF World Championship.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2000 and 2003: Fernando Terere
Terere is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He earned both of his IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2001: Vitor Ribeiro
Ribeiro is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He earned one IBJJF title in the Lightweight division and then moved up and won in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2002: Delson Heleno
This was Heleno's first and only IBJJF World championship title. He won a silver medal at the 2006 IBJJF World Championship and bronze at the 2004 IBJJF World Championships.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011: Marcelo Garcia
Garcia is a five-time IBJJF World champion. He earned all of his IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division. Garcia is also a four-time ADCC World Champion.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2005: Andre Galvao
Galvao is a five-time IBJJF World Champion. He earned one of his IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division. Galvao is also a seven-time IBJJF Pans World Champion.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2007: Lucas Leite
This is Leite's first and only IBJJF World Championship title.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2008: Sergio Moraes
Moraes is a three-time IBJJF World Champion. He won his first IBJJF World title in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2012, 2013, 2016: Otavio Sousa
Sousa is a three-time IBJJF World Champion earning all of his IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division. The media gave him the nickname of Steamroller because of his strength and the fast pace he usually imposes in his fights.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2014: Leandro Lo
Lo is a eight- time IBJJF World Champion and he earned one of his IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2015: Claudio Calasans
This is Calasans first and only IBJJF World Championship title. He also is a two-time IBJJF Pan Champion.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2017 and 2019: Gabriel Arges
Arges is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. He won both of his IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2018: Isaque Bahiense
This is Bahiense's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. A year later he won the IBJJF Pans Championship.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2021 and 2022: Tainan Dalpra
Dalpra is a two-time IBJJF World Champion. A year after his second IBJJF title he won the silver medal at the IBJJF World championship. He also is a three-time IBJJF Pans Champion.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2023: Jansen Gomes
This is Gomes first and only IBJJF World Championship title. He is the current champion and looks to defend his title at the 2024 IBJJF World Championships.

This was Vieira’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2002, 2008, 2009, 2011: Hanette Staack
Staack is a five-time IBJJF Worlds Champion with four of her IBJJF titles in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2003, 2004, 2005: Poliana Lago
Lago is a three-time IBJJF World Champion winning all of her IBJJF World titles in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2006: Caroline de Lazzerok
This is Lazzerok’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2007: Emily Kwok
This is Kwok's first and only IBJJF World Championship title. She is one of the only winners who is not a Brazilian champion in the Middleweight division. Kwok also won the 2007 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2010: Hillary Williams
This is Williams’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title. She is the only American to win in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2012 and 2013: Luanna Alzuguir
Alzuguir is a five-time IBJJF World Champion. She earned two of the IBJJF world titles in the Middleweight division.
IBJJF Middleweight Champion In 2014: Jani Larsson
This is Larsson’s first and only IBJJF World Championship title. She is also the only Swedish winner in the Middleweight category.
