Alex 'Poatan' Pereira Earns BJJ Black Belt With UFC 300 KO Win
Alex Pereira added another belt to his collection at UFC 300 - a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
UFC double champ Alex Pereira added to his collection of accolades at UFC 300, winning the main event and earning a promotion to black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from his coaches. The kickboxing-convert has spent the last few years of his career focusing on grappling with his coaches, including Glover Teixeira.

Alex Pereira was successful in his UFC 300 title defense, keeping the light heavyweight championship with a first round KO over Jamahil Hill. While grappling didn't play into the fight, Glover had clearly seen enough in training to give Pereira the promotion. Before transitioning to the UFC, Alex was a multiple-weight kickboxing champion.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a submission grappling martial art that draws origins in Brazil by way of an evolution in judo tactics. Achieving a black belt typically takes students a decade or longer of study in some cases.
