It's time again for the FloGrappling Awards presented by Kingz Kimonos and this year, the athletes made it harder than ever to narrow it down to just six nominees for each of the five categories. Voting is now open for each of these awards:

The 2023 Submission of the Year nominees feature athletes from gi and no-gi alike. Check out each of the incredible finishes and cast your ballot below!

Jacob Couch's Heel Hook vs Elder Cruz at ADCC East Coast Trials

The Hillbilly Hammer came alive at ADCC Trials, submitting his way through the tournament in the stacked -88kg division to punch his ticket to the 2024 World Championships. In front of a packed mat-side crowd, no finish was more impressive than his outside heel hook over Elder Cruz in the finals, which brought everyone to their feet. In a moment you can only get at Trials, Jacob finished off his day running around the mat and high-fiving as many excited fans as possible to celebrate his accomplishment.

Tainan Dalpra's Gator Roll Armbar vs Pedro Henrik at IBJJF Brasileiros

There's maybe no submission on this list that makes you rewind more times to figure out what happened then Tainan's crazy gator roll into an armbar that he pulled out in the Brasileiro quarterfinals. The gator roll itself is still new to a lot of fans - and then using it to launch into the finish? It's no surprise this one makes our top-6 on "wow" factor alone.

Kody Steele's Rear Naked Choke vs John Abney at ADCC East Coast Trials

There's no stopping Kody Steele when he gets going and if you ever needed reminded of that check out this electric RNC - off the mats and in the middle of the crowd! ADCC rules say keep going until the referee stops you, and Kody was like a pitbull chasing the back and locking up the neck at East Coast Trials. Him getting up and letting out a victory yell surrounded by his brothers-in-arms the Tacketts was one of the most exciting moments of 2023.

Brianna Ste-Marie's Wrist Lock vs Vitoria Vieira at IBJJF World Championships

It's not every year a wrist lock makes the list, but this one couldn't be overlooked. Brianna Ste-Marie turned in one of 2023's best submissions with this rarely-seen wrist lock from the octopus guard, slamming home the violent joint lock for the tap at this year's IBJJF Worlds. BSM is one of modern jiu-jitsu's best finishers and nothing showed that off better than this rarely-seen "octo-mura" (as Brianna has called it).

Nicholas Meregali's Kata Gatame vs Kaynan Duarte at WNO 19

Nicholas Meregali and Kaynan Duarte stand as two titans of the sport and when they met in the Tezos WNO 19 main event it was an incredibly even, tense contest - until it wasn't. Late in the match, it was Meregali who turned up the pace on the 2-time ADCC gold medalist, took him down, mounted him, and finished him with an arm triangle/kata gatame. It wasn't as flashy or rare a technique as some of the other contenders on the list - but until then we had never seen Kaynan taken down and submitted like that. Because of the incredible technical finish and the electric atmosphere that it brought when they competed, this finish has earned a spot on the list.

Mica Galvao's Flying Armbar vs PJ Barch at WNO 20

Mica may just be the most exciting athlete in jiu-jitsu today and he let it fly at Tezos WNO 20 in the welterweight championship tournament - literally at times. His flying armbar over PJ Barch in the finals was one of the most impressive techniques of the year, not just because of the fluidity of the technique but also who he beat in the always-tough PJ Barch.
