Tye Ruotolo Wins Vacant ONE Welterweight Championship
Tye Ruotolo defeated Magomed Abdulkadirov at ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs Andrade to capture the ONE Welterweight Championship.
On Friday evening in Bangkok's historic Lumpinee Stadium, Tye Ruotolo defeated ADCC World Championship veteran Magomed Abdulkadirov at ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs Andrade to capture the ONE Welterweight (185lb) Championship. The Atos black belt won the fight by decision, earning the victory by virtue of more deep submission attempts (1-0).
The ten minute match began with Tye digging heavy collar ties before nearly taking down his opponent with a body lock, then ultimately jumping to guard. From there, he used a k-guard inversion to drop into a leg entanglement that ultimately resulted in a sweep near the halfway point. Once on top, Tye worked to mount position multiple times and scored a criteria-winning submission attempt with a side arm triangle.
Tye is currently the top ranked middleweight and #5 pound-for-pound grappler in FloGrappling's rankings and this victory pushes Tye's ONE record to a perfect 5-0, with 3 submissions to his credit. Magomed is a former ADCC European Trials Champion, and competed at the 2015 ADCC World Championships.
Tye is an IBJJF World Champion and 2022 ADCC Open Class medalist, placing 3rd after falling first round in his weight class. In his time with ONE, he has defeated notable opponents like Garry Tonon in his debut and a string of MMA fighters since. He now joins his twin brother Kade in holding ONE Championship gold in their submission grappling divisions.
