Isaac Doederlein Steps Up For Featherweight Division At IBJJF's The Crown

2022 IBJJF featherweight world champion Isaac Doederlein has officially been invited to compete in the IBJJF's exclusive November event, The Crown, where he'll compete in a four man bracket for $15,000 and ultimate bragging rights as the best featherwight in jiu-jitsu today.

Doederlein joins his new Alliance teammate, Fabricio Andrey, in the bracket of four. But the two, who do not train together, and — surprisingly — have never competed against each other, are game to square off if they hit in the bracket.

Doederlein has been a mainstay on the IBJJF podium for every major event he's competed in in the past five years. Featherweight has proven to be one of the most competitive divisions in jiu-jitsu in the last decade; there has not been a repeat champion since Rafael Mendes ended his streak in 2016. Still, Doederlein has stayed toward the top, with a 2022 Worlds gold, then a 2023 Brasileiros gold, winning heaps of matches with his legendary straight ankle lock.

IBJJF's The Crown, presented by FloGrappling, will feature four male and two female divisions, each with $15,000 on the line and the ultimate bragging rights. The winner of each division is, without a doubt, the best of the best.

In total, the federation will award $120,000 in prizes to the winners, a record for the organization's single-event prize allotment. An event of this magnitude can only take place in the mecca of jiu-jitsu, the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, CA, on Nov. 19, only on FloGrappling.
