The 6 Black Belts Currently Entered In The IBJJF's Next $40k Grand Prix
The IBJJF will be hosting another Grand Prix stacked with big names and exciting matchups in Las Vegas, NV on September 1
One of the busiest IBJJF weeks of the year is fast-approaching, when the organization heads to Las Vegas, NV for the Masters World Championships, Jiu-Jitsu Con, and the IBJJF Absolute Grand Prix. The GP currently has six of eight athletes announced for the $40,000 grand prize, with some of the biggest names in the sport taking the mats on September 1, including 2023 world champions Victor Hugo and Fellipe Andrew.
The eight-man invitation-only bracket has become a staple of the IBJJF calendar, and the champion this year will receieve $40,000 in prize money for defeating three straight world-class opponents. The announced entrants are currently:
- Victor Hugo
- Kaynan Duarte
- Fellipe Andrew
- Gutemberg Pereira
- João Gabriel Rocha
- Horlando Monteiro
Victor recently cemented himself as the best male gi competitor on Earth with double gold performances at both Brazilian Nationals and the World Championships. Fellipe Andrew is also a former open class champion who won his first heavyweight world gold in 2023, and remains one of jiu-jitsu's most active athletes.
Kaynan Duarte, who will be headlining the WNO: Meregali vs Duarte card in Austin on August 10th, is himself a three-time world champion who has established himself as one of the best pound-for-pound grapplers regardless of style. João Gabriel Rocha and Gutemberg Pereira are very experienced and accomplished black belt competitors as well who will aim to play spoiler to the field.
Who will be the final athletes announced? The IBJJF has teased big names still to come, but while we don't yet know those names, we can still look forward to great action from Vegas. All matches will be streamed live exclusively on FloGrappling.
