Teen Phenom Dorian Olivarez Wins Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds 2023
17 year-old blue belt Dorian Olivarez from B-Team continues to turn heads with a 4-0 run through Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds's bantamweight bracket.
17 year-old blue belt Dorian Olivarez from B-Team won the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Bantamweight championship this weekend with a 4-0 run through a bracket full of experienced grappling talent. High schooler Dorian has emerged in 2023 as one of the most exciting prospects in grappling, having only just completed his sophomore year of high school. He also won the ADCC Dallas Open's advanced -65kg division, defeating 4 straight opponents who held a higher belt rank.
Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds is an event held by Eddie Bravo, an evolution of the original EBI's, where open handed striking is allowed on the ground with matches using EBI overtime rules. Olivarez blazed through his sixteen-man bantamweight division with 4 straight rear naked chokes - 3 in regulation. In his run, Olivarez defeated experienced black belt and WNO veteran Richard Alarcon (currently ranked #1 in the ADCC Open rankings at -65) and Zack Schneider in the finals.
Dorian turned heads earlier this year when he entered and won the ADCC Dallas Open, defeating experienced competitors like Geoff Real and Logan Marshall. Dorian is currently ranked third in FloGrappling's ADCC Open rankings at -65 given his success.
Correction - While Dorian does train periodically with B-Team, his main training is under his father, black belt Mike Olivarez, officially representing Team Olivarez.
