The AIGA Champions League will be coming to FloSports, with its August 19-20 event set to be the first event streamed live on the platform. AIGA is a team tournament league, with team champions set to earn $120,000 in total prize money at the December finals. The Almaty, Kazakhstan-based organization has drawn attention in recent weeks with the inclusion of teams organized by grappling stars like Khabib Nurmagomedov and ADCC organizer Mo Jassim.

AIGA is based on team vs team matchups, similar to dual meets in wrestling, with eight teams in the field. There are seven weight classes, and the team which wins more matches is declared the victor and advances the next round.

The weight classes are the same as at the ADCC Open tournaments;

  • 60kg
  • 65kg
  • 70kg
  • 76kg
  • 83kg
  • 91kg
  • +91kg

The rules are unique for AIGA. Based on a foundation of ADCC points, each match is split into three rounds of five minutes. For the first two minutes of each round, there are no points except for takedowns or negatives. At the beginning of each new round, the score resets to 0-0. Whichever athlete wins the most rounds wins the match. A submission or DQ ends the contest at any time.

Recently, Mo Jassim announced his intention to form a team, and quickly filled a roster with elite grapplers for contention. Team Modolfo, which you'll be able to watch compete this August in quarterfinal action, includes:

  • Giancarlo Bodoni
  • Dante Leon
  • Fabricio Andrey
  • Izaak Michell
  • Gabriel Sousa
  • Jon Hansen
  • Thalison Soares
  • Cole Abate
  • Zack Kaina
  • Luke Griffith

All four teams at the event will face off with one another in a round robin format, including Al Leone, Universal Fighters, and Nurmagomedov MMA School. The top two finishers  will advancing to the next round. The quarterfinals will include a rematch of the 2022 AIGA Champion's League Final, when Nurmagomedov MMA School takes on defending champions Universal Fighters.

At the first quarterfinal event, Açaí Republic and Battle Force both advanced to this December's semifinals. Dominic Mejia of Açaí Republic was named MVP of the event, going undefeated on the day.
