10 Grapplers To Watch At This Weekend's ADCC Dallas Open
Check out 10 grapplers you should keep an eye on at this weekend's ADCC Dallas Open, including Oliver Taza, Helena Crevar, Junny Ocasio, and more.
This weekend's ADCC Dallas Open is nearly at full capacity, with every advanced division full of tough, experienced grapplers looking to gain experience with the organization and ruleset before Trials and Worlds season begins. Most brackets will have a strong mix of established names and dark horse grapplers who can shake up their division, with all action being streamed live this weekend exclusively on FloGrappling.
Here are ten grapplers currently registered for the tournament who you should keep an eye on:
Luke Griffith, +100kg
The South African brown belt took eventual ADCC open class champion Yuri Simoes to a judge's decision in the first round of the 2022 World Championships. He looks to gain more ADCC experience in the heaviest division of the tournament.
Rene Sousa, 83kg
The new black belt is known for his buggy choke but has recently been showing a lot more prowess in other areas of the game, including his leg locking. He is entered in a very deep 83kg bracket this weekend.
Junny Ocasio, 60kg
The master of the z-lock has been grinding through the ADCC opens with strong showings and a lot of creative entanglements. He is entered in the lightest advanced bracket of the weekend, representing Unity Jiu Jitsu.
Helena Crevar, 65kg
Helena just won double gold in juvenile 1 blue belt at the IBJJF Worlds, but now turns her focus back to no-gi. The Team New-Wave representative has been busy on the ADCC circuit, with a lot of success despite only being 16.
Oliver Taza, 83kg
Oliver Taza is one of the best leg lockers in the sport right now, and has used the ADCC opens to stay busy and prove that point. He is part of the deepest division in the tournament, 83kg, with matchups with Combs, Blank, and Sousa potentially coming.
Troy Russell, 76kg
Troy is fresh off of a submission win on the WNO undercard against Austin Oranday, getting another heel hook victory. The Six Blades athlete has gained a lot of stock this year with his offense-heavy style.
Kauane Ramos, 70kg
Kauane Ramos won brown belt double gold at the IBJJF World Championships and was promptly promoted in rank. The Fight Sports athlete is now making her black belt debut under the ADCC Open banner.
John Combs, 83kg
Combs, who holds the record for most black belt guillotine choke victories, has been one of the most consistent ADCC Open competitors, and adds a lot to the 83kg bracket.
Achilles Rocha, 91kg & Jasmine Rocha, 60kg
Achilles and Jasmine are the children of 3-time ADCC Medalist and UFC veteran Vagner Rocha, and both are very skilled in their own right. Watch out for the young Rochas to come in with a lot more familiarity with the ADCC style than their peers.
Jon Blank, 83kg
Jon has only had one tournament so far this year, but he did win gold in a tough IBJJF Tampa Open bracket. He's had good ADCC success before, making the semifinals of the World Championships in 2019.
All action from the ADCC Dallas Open will stream live on FloGrappling this weekend, tune in to see who emerges with gold.
