Gordon Ryan will take on his biggest challenge to date when he faces Felipe Pena in a one-hour, submission-only superfight on Saturday, December 17. The match will take place at Studio 540 in Solana Beach, California, and you can watch it live on FloGrappling.
Also on the same event are superfights featuring Garry Tonon versus Kim Terra and Nicky Ryan against Kennedy Maciel. All bouts are submission-only superfights.
Ryan has made a name from himself throughout 2016 as one of the most active and successful members of the "Danaher Death Squad," the informal name given to the elite team of no-gi grapplers trained by John Danaher at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York.
Ryan is a two-time EBI champion, winning the openweight and middleweight tournaments. He also defeated Keenan Cornelius via heelhook in a no-time limit, submission-only match that went over 90 minutes and was victorious in a number of other superfights and smaller tournaments.
Pena is an IBJJF black belt world champion, UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro champion, Grand Slam champion, and ADCC 2015 silver medalist. He also won two superfights at Berkut, facing off against ADCC and IBJJF No-Gi world champion Yuri Simoes and IBJJF No-Gi world champion Jackson Sousa.

Tonon vs. Terra, Ryan vs. Maciel
On the same event, Garry Tonon will face off with Kim Terra and Gordon's younger brother, Nicky Ryan, will meet Kennedy Maciel, son of legendary featherweight world champion Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles. All matches will take place under similar rules.
Tonon has become infamous for his constant searching out of only the toughest superfight challenges. With leglock submission wins over elite black belts (including the likes of Ralek Gracie, Gilbert Burns, Dustin Akbari, Masakazu Imanari, and Marcin Held) Tonon will bring his all-out-attacking style to face off with the crafty technician Terra. The younger brother of world champion Caio Terra, Terra has an unorthodox and deceptive no-gi game that should pose an interesting clash of styles with Tonon.
Rounding off the event is a special teen no-gi, submission-only match between Maciel and Ryan. This match features Maciel -- son of legendary world champion "Cobrinha" -- going up against the 15-year-old Ryan, who recently took third at the ADCC North American trials. Maciel is a creative and technical grappler much like his father. A 2016 purple belt IBJJF champion, it remains to be seen how Maciel fares against Ryan's leglock-oriented style.
The Rules
Gordon Ryan and Pena will fight in a one-hour, submission-only match. If there is no winner at the end of the hour, then they will decide the match via EBI overtime rules.
The Tonon vs. Terra and Ryan vs. Maciel matches will both be 30-minute, submission-only bouts, with EBI rules in the case of no winner at the end of the regulation time period.
