Mikey Musumeci & Junny Ocasio Will Collide At Who's Number One On June 18
Two of the best bantamweights in the world will square off in this co-main event at FloGrappling's Who's Number One: Craig Jones vs Tye Ruotolo on June 18.
Now that he’s successfully defeated the no.1-ranked bantamweight grappler, Mikey Musumeci has set his sights on another of the top-ranked 135-lb grapplers in the world. Musumeci is scheduled to return to FloGrappling’s Who’s Number One: Craig Jones vs Tye Ryuotolo on Friday, June 18 to take on the no.2-ranked bantamweight, Edwin "Junny" Ocasio.
Musumeci is a 2016 No-Gi World champion, but took a five year hiatus from no-gi. In that time, he won three world titles in the gi, but he returned to no-gi earlier this year to face Marcelo Cohen on Who’s Number One. He submitted Coehn, and took a shot at the top-ranked Lucas Pinheiro at WNO on May 28. Musumeci beat Pinheiro with a leg lock — his first ever heel hook win — in less than 90 seconds.
Musumeci is one of the best ever in his weight class. In his five year black belt career, he’s only lost twice against opponents in his weight class, and his only submission loss came against the 60-lbs heavier Horlando Monteiro. He has a newfound love for no-gi competition, inspired by the atmosphere surrounding WNO, and is looking to settle in atop the lightest weight classes.
Junny Ocasio is currently the no.2-ranked bantamweight, and has been in his stride since 2020. In that timeframe, he’s 10-1 in matches at 135-lbs with five submission wins. Like Musumeci, Ocasio is a WNO veteran, coming into this match with two previous WNO appearances. He’s currently 1-1 on the WNO stage. He went the distance with Geo Martinez in his last appearance; he lost a close decision.
Musumeci has clearly developed his leg lock game, and may be interested in showing it off against Ocasio. That could be a challenge, as Ocasio has proven himself one of the most formidable leg lockers, and well-rounded attackers in the 135-lb division.
