Rematches, Redemption, Respect & Power Couples at Fight 2 Win 107
F2W has once again rallied some of the most successful athletes of our generation at F2W 107.
Rematches, redemption, respect, and power couples: Fight 2 Win 107 is bringing it all to the stage this Friday, March 30 in New England. The main event is a rematch between two of the most respected competitors of this generation in a 145 lbs gi match up between Ana Carolina “Baby” Vieira (GF Team) and Luiza Monteiro (Atos).
F2W has once again rallied some of the most successful athletes of our generation. We have world champions facing off, power couples going for a new kind of “double gold”, rematches, redemption, and respect all in one night of jiu-jitsu at F2W 107.
A lioness stalks her prey because she feeds on other predators, and just like the adage says: game recognizes game. The same is true for the world champion match up in this main event between Ana Carolina “Baby” Vieira and Luiza Monteiro, two of the most dominant predators in this generation of jiu-jitsu.
Both have a myriad of titles: Vieira has won IBJJF Worlds at every belt, and has only gained momentum upon receiving her black belt in 2016. She has topped the podium of Worlds in her first two years at black belt, winning her second title by utilizing her dominant passing to chase the back and ultimately sink one of her favorite arm-in ezekial chokes against Raquel Canuto. Her submission game was on display again most recently when she took home gold at last month’s Pans by submitting Jessica Swanson and then beating Laura Hallock in the finals.
To say she is on fire is an understatement, and she is burning for more than another win. Last week her wife, Luanna Alzuguir, fought on the F2W 106 card and lost a contested split decision. While Vieira loves the F2W ruleset because she believes the “finest thing about jiu-jitsu is the submission”, she also believes Alzuguir made more submission attempts than her opponent, and therefore deserved the win last weekend. In fact, they were so confident in her performance they began celebrating before the official call was made. Witnessing that has ignited a new flame for Vieira and she aims to bring redemption to the stage, and leave nothing to chance.
This is a highly anticipated rematch for Vieira and Monteiro. The pair have met twice before and although the GF Team black belt has been victorious on both accounts, she admits that Monteiro is in the best moment of her career, so she is preparing for her strongest performance yet.
Luiza Monteiro is a lioness in her own right, earning every major IBJJF title multiple times over. A feat only the truly elite can claim, and with that she is no stranger to overcoming adversity. She recently took gold in the medium-heavy weight division at Pans– to get there she had to defeat Monique Elias in the final, a rival with whom she has exchanged victories and losses with in the past.
Not only was her resilience on display at Pans, so was her her lethal leglock game (a perfect weapon against the dangerous top game of Vieira) as she submitted Maria Malyjasiak by kneebar in her campaign to the top of the podium. Monteiro respects Vieira as one of the best competitors of this generation, but is confident she will rewrite history as she takes the stage with the support of her team, Atos HQ in San Diego, her coach, Andre Galvao, and her partner Gustavo Batista, who will also compete on the card (see below).
For Monteiro, a happy fighter is the most dangerous fighter, and she is happiest when she is able to travel and compete alongside her fiancé, Gustavo Batista. Competing together fuels her and grounds her, and sharing the stage with Batista in this event is the perfect dynamic to support her toward her best performance yet.
That brings us to some of the dynamite matches on this undercard. Gustavo Batista will be striving for a different “double gold” run as he joins fiancé Luiza Monteiro on this card in his match against Horlando Monteiro of Gustavo Dantes Jiu-Jitsu. Batista has just been tearing up the competition scene in both his weight and the absolute. Last year he closed out the year with 42 wins and only 2 losses, and 2019 is looking to be just as dominant. Triangle specialist Horlando Monteiro, a European champion, comes to the stage looking to redeem a loss against Batista in last year’s Pans.
The card hosts a co-main event feature judo black belts Mooney Cole and Rick Hawn, as well as over 30 more matches between eager up and comers.
