Gordon Ryan Record Breakdown Before ADCC Super Fights

Gordon Ryan has two Super Fights At the 2024 ADCC World Championship. Here's a look at this all-time record.

Gordon Ryan returns to the ADCC World Championship in 2024 as arguably the greatest no-gi submission grappler of all time and “The King” has earned that moniker.

Ryan is the defending +99KG ADCC World Champion and in 2019 he won both the -99KG and Absolute ADCC Championship.

Ryan’s ADCC championship run started seven years ago when he won the -88KG World Championship. Among those that have been right there with him winning ADCC Championships are Yuri Simoes and Felipe Pena.

Simoes won his first ADCC Championship nine years ago in 2015 and has since won ADCC World titles in 2017 and in 2022 and done so in three different weight classes (-88KG, -99KG and Absolute). In 2017, won the Absolute championship in 2017.

The last three Absolute champions will all be in action as Ryan will face both Simoes and longtime rival Pena in a pair of ADCC Super Fights, one on Aug. 17 and another on Aug 18.

The times of the Super Fights haven’t been announced yet, but ADCC World Championship action begins at 1 p.m. on both days.

Every ADCC event the week of the 2024 championship is streaming on FloGrappling and FloSports.

Why Gordon Ryan vs. Felipe Pena Is A Big Deal

The one submission loss was by rear naked choke eight years ago by none other than Felipe Pena. The submission loss has fueled the Pena-Ryan rivalry ever since. Pena has a 2-1 record against Ryan, having won by submission and again by points at the 2017 ADCC World Championship.

Ryan defeated Pena in 2022 at WNO 14 via a verbal tap. The two were scheduled to meet again in 2023, but Ryan’s stomach illness forced him to cancel the match. The wait for Ryan vs. Pena 4 ends on Aug. 17.

When Was The Last Time Gordon Ryan Lost A BJJ Match?

The last time Ryan lost a match was in 2018 against Vinny Magalhaes at ACBJJ 13. He lost by points in the +95KG bracket. He has not lost in 55 matches since.

Gordon Ryan vs. Yuri Simoes History

Ryan is 4-0 against Yuri Simoes but the two have not faced each other since 2018. Ryan defeated Simoes in 2017 with a rear naked choke.
