Once again it was another packed weekend of jiu-jitsu. Here's your essential rundown of all the most important stories. 

Erberth unleashes the beast, announces new direction

Yeah, yeah, we know… Erberth Santos is a savage, and we generally fear for his opponents whenever he steps on the mat. 

You wouldn't expect him to run over such an experienced grappler as Dimitrius Souza of Alliance, but that's exactly what happened on Saturday in the absolute final at the IBJJF Sao Paulo Open.

It took Erberth 1:05 to strangle Souza into submission. Watch the video below:

...And we should take this opportunity to report that he's leaving Almeida JJ to start his own team. 

It's no secret that Erberth never stays too long in any one team. He's bounced from gym to gym over the last few years, and now at age 23 he says he's moving on from the team he represented at Worlds to start his own team, titled ES Team.

The announcement came on his Instagram profile as he posted a pic from the podium at the Sao Paulo Open. 

I would like to say that this was my last competition representing the team that welcomed me and that I had the honor of representing when I became World Champion. Almeida JJ is part of my story and I am very grateful to everyone, especially Caio, Diogo and Gustavo! 

Thank you from the heart for everything you have done for me! But this is a special migration, a new step and an opportunity to carry out my projects, so I announce here firsthand, the team I dreamed of: ES TEAM 'Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Squadron"'! 

From now on, that's who I'll represent. I hope I can give new athletes the opportunity to live from jiu-jitsu as I could, with ES I can pass some of what I learned in the world of jiu-jitsu and help in the training of athletes' potentials!

He followed it up with a post showing his logo: 

I want to tell all of you that this is a moment I planned and dreamed of, I was criticized for changing teams and thinking about my evolution, but I showed that my choices were important to get where I am and to be world champion at 23 years old.

I came from nothing, doubted everything, and maybe it could have been harder to get where I am if I wasn't born with even the minimum. 

ES Team was born for those who dream big! I believe that in two months we will have our structures ready and we will recruit athletes of all categories to add up! Keep an eye out and wait!

Kaynan competes in the gi one week out from ADCC

With the withdrawal of Elisabeth Clay due to injury, Kaynan Duarte is the youngest qualified athlete to compete at the upcoming ADCC World Championships in Espoo, Finland. 

He's been training hard at Atos in San Diego with Andre Galvao and the crew, but Duarte obviously hasn't let his gi skills slip. He put on the gi and won the brown belt heavyweight and absolute divisions at the San Diego BJJ Pro on Saturday, picking up a nice little check of $800 for his trouble.

Duarte had one match in his weight class, beating Josh Valles 5-2. In the absolute final, he beat Ribeiro JJ ultra heavyweight Victor Hugo with a toe hold.

Twelve hours later, he was on a plane to Finland where he will compete in the -88kg division.

Gracie Barra win two team trophies in the same day

Gracie Barra are reputed to have more jiu-jitsu gyms worldwide than anybody else. 

While their focus is on "jiu-jitsu for everybody," they still produce a high volume of tough competitors, and their work in creating an army of competitors is being reflected in recent team trophies, which you can see below.
