It's been a wild ride for Chael Sonnen. The ADCC announced Tuesday night that Sonnen's upcoming opponent, Frank Mir, is out of the scheduled superfight between the fellow Bellator fighters at next month's ADCC World Championships.

Sonnen has now officially had not one but two opponents drop out of the superfight.

But the good news is that CheckMat's head coach and two-time ADCC world champion Leo Vieira has answered the call and will take on "The American Gangster" on September 24 from Espoo, Finland.

Despite being outweighed by more than 50 pounds, Vieira is no stranger to grappling heavier opponents. He most notably took on a +99kg Mark Kerr in ADCC 2000 and holds wins over Eddie Bravo, Ryan Hall, Baret Yoshida, and Matt Serra, among others. Vieira is considered one of the very best grapplers in the world and will be a stiff test for Sonnen.

This year's ADCC World Championship super fights will feature:
  • Main Superfight: Andre Galvao (defending Super Fight Champion) vs. Claudio Calasans (2015 Open Class Champion)
  • Stars Superfight #1: Chael Sonnen vs. Leo Vieira
  • Stars Superfight #2: Renzo Gracie vs. Sanae Kikuta
