Watch Mahamed Aly Casually Go 11-0 Against Jared Dopp At The Houston Open
Brazilian ultra heavyweight Mahamed Aly is a freak, and we mean that in the nicest possible way. He's a tough as hell 6'2", 100kg+ (220lb) black belt badass from Rio de Janeiro, and you'd be crazy not to keep a close eye on Aly as we think he's going to make a lot of noise over the next few years.

Only 21 years of age, he got his black belt in October last year and fought his way to the finals of the 2015 No-Gi Worlds one month later, losing a very close match in the dying seconds by a single advantage.

Last weekend he faced Jared Dopp at the 2016 IBJJF Houston Open. They know each other well – they've already fought six times in a mix of gi and no-gi (4-2 to Aly).

Aly went 5-2 against Dopp on Saturday in a crushing display of smooth technique. We broke it down for you below.

1: Sweep from half guard, 2-0

null

• From a Z-guard position, Aly has a sleeve grip with his right hand.
• The right leg comes out from underneath Dopp and blocks him, while he kicks his left leg over like a flower sweep.
• A hip-bump to finish sees him come up on top.

2: Sweep from Lasso / Half Guard to Kimura Attempt, 4-0

null

• Aly has a deep lasso on Dopp’s left arm and Dopp in half guard.
• He frees his bottom leg and goes for a scissor sweep-type motion.
• As Dopp posts to block the sweep, Aly latches onto a kimura grip that Dopp is forced to roll out of to escape.

3: Super Simple Half Guard Sweep, 6-0

null

• This is a very easy sweep when done properly, a technique that effortlessly off-balances your opponent.
• By gripping Dopp’s right sleeve and making it impossible for him to post, Aly feels for the moment that Dopp’s weight comes forward and he simply chambers his hips to the side. Beautiful.

4: Run-Around Pass, 9-0

null

• On top and in a similar position that he had been attacking from, Aly uses his left hand to grip Dopp’s collar and his right hand to control the bottom leg.
• He drives his head forward and lifts his hips up and back, running around on his toes to secure side control.

5: Blast Double, 11-0

null

• Back up on the feet Aly catches Dopp walking forward with his head high.
• He level changes and blasts though his opponent, securing an easy two points on his way to victory.

Bonus: Flying Armbar attempt

null

It’s not every day you see a +100kg / +220lb guy attempt a flying armbar! Aly came very close to catching Dopp with it here, although the American managed to slip out right before his arm was at full extension.
