Eddie Bravo: Building an Empire premiered it's first episode on Flograppling last week and we'd like to take a look back to point out some interesting takeaways.

1. Eddie was Metal as F***

When you're as metal as Eddie is there really ever time to put on a shirt or comb your hair? It all started with the music for Eddie and to his credit he hasn't stopped, still writing and recording music till this day.

2. This kid is way too flexible

There's flexible and then there's choking yourself with your own 'dead orchard'.

3. Times have changed. "There's no money in Jiu-Jitsu"

We've come a long way, not to say jiu-jitsu still doesn't have a long way to go but watching Eddie's version of MTV Cribs does give some perspective. There were no rewards for beating the best in the world, but look who's trying to change that. EBI 5 gave away $20k to Garry Tonon and EBI 6 looks to give a possible $50k to the winner. Eddie knows first hand what it's like to beat the best and have nothing to show for it, which makes his EBI format all the more commendable.

4. Hearing Eddie talk about the genesis of 'Rubber Guard'

Straight from the horses mouth. Eddie saw a problem in MMA and sought out to find the solution.

5. Love him or hate him, Eddie followed his dreams.

Eddie quit his menial day job and dedicated his life to his love of Jiu-Jitsu. And what is more inspiring than that? 10th Planet has over 60 schools worldwide and is one most recognizable teams in BJJ today.
